Why did I go down the path of health and wellness coaching?
I’ve been teaching culinary classes for the last 17 years, and in the last 7 years, I’ve homed in and focused on Culinary Medicine. As I worked with patients, community members, and students, I realized that I was doing them all a disservice if I didn’t acknowledge the beast in the room: stress.
No matter how well I teach or what meal plans I can create, nothing works until we can handle the stress in our life. People can come into a cooking class with all the best intentions in the world, whether to learn better knife skills or create flavorful plant-based meals. All of these intentions are great, but to become healthier and live better, it’s the stress we need to handle.
I want to take a journey with each person who comes through my kitchen and my life. By recognizing the stressors in their lives, people can identify the roots of their discomfort. I want to give them the tools so they can repackage them into a gift of opportunity when stressful situations do come up. I will continue to help people build meal plans and hone their cooking skills to nourish their bodies. But as a health and wellness coach, I also will help people learn to handle their stress first to nourish their whole selves.
